Dear Colleagues,
The past weeks have been formidable for everyone, with COVID 19 affecting not only our professional but even our personal lives. It is generating dread and anxiety, destabilizing our emotional and mental well-being. We fear for our patients and their survival since their life-saving treatments are threatened. Yet, we must remain strong and resilient.
As physicians, let us continue to fulfill our duties well and hold the banner of the PSN high. Be proud in the opportunity for service. In this time of adversity, as the nation’s leading experts in renal medicine and kidney care, we are in constant communication with government agencies looking for solutions for our specific needs. To be a nephrologist is to be a leader. Let us be leaders in our respective communities.
In a call for solidarity, let us continue to support each other and work hand in hand. Now is the time to cooperate in a spirit of altruism. Let us continue collating guidelines, updates and experiences that we can use in our local setting for providing the best possible treatment for our patients, given the limitations we face. These will empower us on how to best protect ourselves, our patients, nurses and other healthcare workers. Fortunately, with several avenues on our side like the social media, distance and isolation are bridged, allowing us to convene and exchange opinions. All our ideas are valid – the influx of concepts allows us to focus our intents and lend weight to the words behind our decisions.
Let us not lose hope and continue to pray, looking up to where our strength comes from. We implore for divine intervention for our families, our patients, for the people who work with us, and also, for ourselves. We are our best asset, and we must not neglect to look after our well-being.
As we confront this faceless foe, let us remember that the rule of the universe is that eventually, after everything takes its toll, things should come to an end. Let us tirelessly work, responding to the evolving challenges posed by COVID-19. Though exhausted and with rest scarce and far between, if we work together, we will overcome!
Be strong, be safe and stay well.
