The practice of nephrology, despite its life-saving value is coupled with environmental costs. This will eventually have a negative impact on nature and the climate. It is imperative that renal medicine be exercised with the least carbon footprint possible.

The Philippine Society of Nephrology with its Green Nephrology Program advocates the inclusion of environmental consciousness in the daily activities of kidney care. In particular, the PSN has partnered with Hemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis centers in the country with programs to reduce and recycle (whenever feasible) waste and by-products.
