The ever-ready Nephrologists from Quezon helped to establish their dedicated COVID Hemodialysis units last March 2020 at the Quezon Medical Center. Cavite soon followed last May 2020 designating the Korea Philippines Friendship Project under the General Emilio Aguinaldo Memorial Hospital as the next COVID unit. Laguna is next at the Ospital ng Cabuyao.
We held a very successful First Virtual (actually 10 th ) Post-Graduate Course entitled “Addressing COVID 19 in Hemodialysis”. This was led by Dr. Sheena Marie Diloy and Dr. Marie Fe Vergara-Lim Dy. Instead of a whole day event, we decided to make it a weekly one-hour webinar which ran from October 11 thru November 15, 2020. Topics included COVID 19 Updates, the New Normal in Hemodialysis, Mental Health Issued among Healthcare Workers, New Hemodialysis Modalities in COVID and Supplements and Vitamins for the CKD patient.
Although 3 back to back typhoons visited Southern Tagalog, we were generally spared from the flood and structural damage that were seen in other regions.
So as not to dampen our Christmas spirits, we held our first Virtual General Assembly/Christmas Party last November 28, 2020. Our Socials Committee headed by Dr. Gene Ancao kept us laughing with our Crazy Hats, Tiktok Challenge and adapted the Bring Me games to a whole new virtual level.
This year’s Natatanging Nephro Awardee is non other than Dr. Edgardo Faustino. This award is given to member of STC that has contributed immensely for the betterment of the society. Dr. Faustino is one of the Founding Members of PSN STC.
We do not know what the next few months will bring but whatever the challenge, the Nephrologists of the Southern Tagalog Chapter are ready to meet them head-on.
