WOW, 50! A huge accomplishment!
Anniversaries mark the passage of time. And we are all here celebrating the fifty golden years of the Philippine Society of Nephrology.
In celebration of this memorable occasion, we have prepared a myriad of lectures: enlightenment from the old learnings, innovations, presentations of new ideas, and yearning to hear what the future holds in terms of the various unraveling of more recent studies that are relevant to our practice. The theme of the Annual convention,” PSN Soaring to New Heights”, highlights ideas from the more common problems we encounter, such as AKIs (Acute Kidney Injury), chronic kidney disease, and the not so common GUTB (Genitourinary TB) but quite puzzling to our practice and not to mention paving avenues for newer approaches to challenging to treat Glomerulonephritides such as Membranous Nephropathy. We have also invited distinguished speakers from the West, the likes of Dr. Debbie Gipson, who will describe the spectrum of minimal change disease that can evolve into different podocytopathies and uncomplicate the pathologic basis of this.
Day 2 is highlighted by the newer discoveries about covid 19 vaccines and how it affects the unique population we treat, our dialysis and post-transplant patients. Next, professor Vivekananda Jha, the past president of ISN himself, will discuss the special affectation of the Covid 19 virus on the kidneys. Finally, highlights of the KDIGO guidelines in glomerulonephritis will be discussed in-depth by Professor Floege himself, one of the foremost experts in this area.
We have also invited distinguished speakers from our neighboring Asian countries, like Dr. See Cheng Yao, known for his research in glomerulonephritis, and Dr. Mushahar from Malaysia, one of the proponents of Peritoneal Dialysis and our very own local experts, to mention a few, Dra. Irmingarda Gueco, Dr. Robert Tanchangco, will tackle essential aspects in the management of Nutrition in CKD patients. So watch out for more and be with us in this grand celebration of experts within our midst.
