The BROAD CAST
Agnes A. Alba, MD
It has been thirty two years since the maiden issue of the BROAD CAST was published on December 1990. As was explained in that editorial, the term
BROAD CAST may have two meanings. To the layperson, it means to announce publicly; to the nephrologist, it is a continuing disease process in a remnant nephron population. The first edition came out during the term of Dr. Carmelo A. Alfiler with Dr. Antonio Paraiso as its first editor in chief. Aside from the usual news articles, there were several features: Notes from the Editor which is now simply Editorial, From The Desk, which is equivalent to what we now know as the President’s Message and “Balisawsaw” which served as the gossip column. It has evolved thru the years from a quarterly issue to a yearly issue which is an awaited paper during the business meeting. However times have changed and to reach more readers who have gone digital, the BROADCAST has now been shifted online with now quarterly updates. It currently offers the usual news, Medical education nook, PanghiMAGAS, Editorial, the Other Side of the Nephrologist, Chapter Reports, the 50th year, and the President’s Message. The sitting president of the society meets with the team to suggest focus articles . It has evolved over time and it has adapted to the changes to make it relevant to the society.
