Time: 6:00 PM (via Zoom)
This session will feature a case discussion highlighting the challenges and management strategies in Tumor Lysis Syndrome.
Case Description:
This case presents a formidable challenge in the practice of nephrology—a young patient with relapsed Pre–B cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia who developed Tumor Lysis Syndrome (TLS) as a consequence of both disease burden and intensive chemotherapy. The rapid cascade of hyperuricemia, hyperphosphatemia, hypocalcemia, and acute kidney injury underscored the delicate balance nephrologists must maintain between preventing metabolic catastrophe and supporting ongoing cancer therapy
This case challenges nephrologists in managing tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) in a patient already burdened with fluid overload, highlighting the delicate balance between effective metabolic control and hemodynamic stability. It underscores the need for a multidisciplinary approach to navigate aggressive hydration, uric acid control, renal protection, and infection risk—all while addressing the patient’s neurologic and systemic complications.
